My name is Moses Mwangi Makumi and I grew up in Mukuru Kayaba slums, one of the biggest slums in Kenya.

In 2016 I was charged in Milimani Chief Magistrate Criminal Case No. 1993 of 2016 Republic -Vs- Moses Mwangi Makumi with Cospiracy to commit a felony contrary to section 393 of the Penal Code, Stealing contrary to section 275 of the Penal Code and Handling Suspected Stolen Goods contrary to section 322 (1) (2) of the Penal Code despite there being exculpatory evidence showing that I did not commit the said crimes.

Coming form a very humble background and being unemployed, i had challenges in paying for legal representation and my initial attorney dropped my case in 2019.

I came to know of YOLARA in 2020 and their Ms. Mboya took on my case and agreed to offer pro bono legal representation.

On 15th February 2022 the court delivered its' Judgment and acquitted me of all the charges.
