OUR STORY
Indigent youths are often negatively profiled by the police and the state as criminals because of the misinformed belief that the "poor" are more likely to be tempted by criminal activities such as theft and drug dealing.
I have seen youths from low income homes being the first suspects every time a crime is committed even before proper investigations are carried out and sometimes without any valid reason.
Growing up I saw many of my childhood friends go to prison for crimes that they did not commit without being given a fair chance of proving their innocence.
It became clear to me that the leading cause for the high number of incarceration of Innocent youth from low income homes was the lack of legal representation. Due to poverty, these youth were unable to afford legal representation which in turn tilted the scales of justice against them when their cases were prosecuted by trained lawyers employed by the government as prosecutors.
I founded YOLARA to ensure that innocent youth don't go to prison for crimes that they did not commit simply because they are poor.
